How the Plug-in Works
What it does The Ranges plug-in uses a starting date and an ending date then generates a range of values between those two dates. The Ranges plug-in will work with number as well as dates to create ranges. This functionality is useful to a FileMaker Pro developer and solution because it allows FileMaker Pro to offer what we call "Quicken-like" features. It adds the functionality to create quick reports and on-screen visuals of the information for a range of time or numbers. Previously, this was only possible to a limited degree through scripting a range with ScriptMaker. A good example is the ability to quickly preview the sales amounts for Quarter 1 of 2000 and then compare this to Quarter 1 of 1999. By adding additional pieces of information you can filter out specific items from the range of dates. This is only one example of what you can do with the Ranges plug-in! How information is displayed, with the help of the plug-in, is up to the developer to implement. In this archive an example financial file is provided. To replicate this type of behavior with the native FileMaker Pro functionality is almost impossible. By requiring a looping script there is no possible way FileMaker Pro, by itself, could generate the range of dates in the same amount of time the plug-in will. We tested it!
